Tell us a little about yourself and how you found the Accenture internship program I’m 21-years-old and live in Espoo near the Helsinki University of Technology where I study. In the autumn I’ll begin the fourth year of my Master’s studies in information networks. Last autumn, I went on a school excursion arranged by Accenture. They took us to play laser tag and to talk to us about the company. The event gave me a very positive impression of Accenture. Later, at a work fair, I spoke with an employee who was very enthusiastic about my background. She urged me to apply for an internship position and that was that!
Describe your work during the internship For starters, all 30 interns were welcomed into the company warmly. There was a kick-off dinner and the managing director of the office himself came and stressed how important interns are to the future of the company. I learned from my work that interns are given real roles and responsibilities—not just “busy work.” My own role was divided between testing and functionality teams working to develop a major new information system for a Finnish governmental organization. The new system will make the organization’s highly collaborative processes more efficient and effective.
What was the most important thing you learned during your internship? At Accenture, there is a strong team culture and the project I worked on demanded collaboration between teams from functionality to programming to testing. Now that I’ve seen the entire workflow, I understand that teamwork is more than just a nice thing to say. It’s critical for delivering excellent outcomes for our clients.
Would you come back to Accenture? The summer has been a very positive experience, so absolutely, yes.
