“Here, when you have a question, you’re showered with support: templates, materials and approaches that help you help your client.”

Describe your background

I’m still pretty new here—I joined the firm in March of 2005. I have a Master’s Degree in international business administration and languages from Copenhagen Business School. Before joining Accenture I worked in two different companies: for an international health insurance firm in their Latin American department, and with a smaller, Copenhagen-based, consulting firm in human resources.

Why did you choose Accenture?

I always wanted to work with Accenture. It has such a strong reputation, but when I graduated the firm was under a hiring freeze and I had to wait. Then I saw an ad one day and it described the kind of work I’d always wanted, so I applied. At Accenture there’s variation in the projects you’re assigned, and you’re teaming with such enthusiastic and committed people.

What do you like most about your job?

The teaming aspects. When I began I was assigned to a project immediately. I was the only human performance consultant working on the team and was expected to deliver. I was in charge of designing a training approach for a major transport company. At that point I was very glad for the two and a half years experience I already had under my belt. Although that first project was challenging, I never felt “thrown out on my own”. Here, when you have a question, you’re showered with support: templates, materials and approaches that help you help your client. My career counselor is a human performance manager so she understands what I do and is passionate about my work and hers. Having her input has given me a great “comfort zone” for my work.

What are you working on now?

There’s an SAP project I’m involved with for a Danish food company. We’re rolling out a system to 40 different locations worldwide and I’m both assisting the program office and doing hands-on design work. At Accenture you have to be a strong individual player; but you also have to meld your expertise into a team environment. It’s fascinating. Since the project is global, I’m interacting with people from China, Finland, the U.S. and Spain, including our own local Accenture consultants working onsite for the client.
